The Purpose Pledge Officially Launches Following Its Successful Pilot Year

16 Companies Join Together to Measure Progress on 10 Bold Commitments That Embed Purpose into Business Operations

VISTA, CA – The Purpose Pledge, a collaborative business initiative, has officially launched following the successful completion of its one-year pilot program in 2025. Co-founded by Dr. Bronner’s, LIFT Economy, and OSC (One Step Closer) last year, the Purpose Pledge is a stakeholder-centered, collaborative initiative anchored by 10 Commitments that embed purpose into company governance, operations, and supply chains. It brings together an ecosystem of companies and allied support organizations in a shared, accountable community wherein members learn from one another and measure progress publicly and transparently.

The current roster of Purpose Pledge companies includes Big Tree Farms, Dr. Bronner’s, Fat and the Moon, Gallant International, GoodSAM, Just Ice Tea, Kuli Kuli Foods, Magic Chocolate, Mountain Rose Herbs, Nana Joes Granola, Nature’s Path, Numi Organic Tea, Pacha, SIMPLi, Wild Orchard Tea Company, and Yerba Madre. For more information about the Purpose Pledge, and to view member companies’ three-year plans for meeting the 10 Commitments, please visit: http://www.purposepledge.org.

In the face of escalating planetary and social crises, the Purpose Pledge offers businesses a practical, accountable pathway to transition from extractive to regenerative operational models. Specifically designed for companies in the food, personal care, supplements, and apparel sectors that manufacture products from land and ocean supply chains, Purpose Pledge offers companies a roadmap and support structure to meet ambitious commitments based on rigorous ecological and social standards, while facilitating long-term, purpose-driven investment funding for companies that need it.

“While many companies strive to have a positive impact, their efforts tend to be siloed or limited to a single issue—and their operations are not often consistently aligned with their claims to do better. The time is long overdue for more companies to embrace a holistic approach, moving purpose from aspiration to action,” said Les Szabo, Board Chair of Purpose Pledge. “The Purpose Pledge provides both a clear roadmap and a supportive community to ensure purpose-driven companies can deliver mutual benefit for people and the planet across every level of their businesses.”

One result of the 2025 pilot program was the integration of Commitment Catalysts into the Purpose Pledge ecosystem. Commitment Catalysts are nonprofit organizations with specific expertise on social, economic, and environmental issues that are working with member companies to support their development and achievement of quantifiable, eco-social metrics and goals, as part of 10 Purpose Pledge Commitments.

Commitment Catalyst organizations and their respective area of expertise include:

  • Environmental Working Group: Product Quality and Transparency

  • Regenerative Organic Alliance: Supply Web Integrity

  • Living Wage for Us: Living Wage & Decent Livelihoods, Fair & Balanced Compensation

  • Planet FWD: Climate Action

  • The Change Climate Project: Climate Action

  • TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency): Circularity for Zero Waste

  • One Step Closer: Capability Building

Purpose Pledge companies receive support from and contribute to a learning community that emphasizes openness, resource-sharing, and mutual progress as companies overcome various challenges in pursuit of the Purpose Pledge 10 Commitments. The 10 Commitments define what it means to be purpose-driven and establish a clear framework for measuring progress. By setting clear, achievable, measurable, and meaningful criteria for purpose-led practices, the Pledge aims to elevate the standards for businesses adopting and redefining stakeholder economics.

The 10 Purpose Pledge Commitments include:

  1. Purpose-Led Governance

  2. Product Quality & Transparency

  3. Supply Web Integrity

  4. Fair & Balanced Compensation

  5. Living Wage & Decent Livelihoods

  6. Well-Being & Inclusion

  7. Community Engagement

  8. Climate Action

  9. Circularity for Zero Waste

  10. Capability Building

The recently updated Purpose Pledge website provides transparency on the goals and achievements of member companies through a visually accessible Progress Tracker, which clearly illustrates the progress companies are making toward their 10 Commitments, and includes three-year plans towards achieving those commitments for each member company. Through three-year commitment plans, Purpose Pledge companies are building a values-based ecosystem—an interconnected network of purpose-driven companies and Commitment Catalysts which help deepen engagement and action on impactful solutions.
